Just an all around random thread, but there is something that I see so often with SD dolls that go over the 63cm size mark... there are always veins on the hands and feet...! Aaaah, to me, this creeps me out and I never really like it. _xD I've always been weirded out by veins. I understand that it's for the sake of sculpture and fine details, and I respect that level of artistry. But aaaah, really, that's one detail I would never miss if it were left out...!
What's the general public's opinion on such details? x3 Like 'um? Don't notice 'um? Or like me and creeped out...! |

I LOVE sculpted veins!! Little, strange, hyper realistic details like that are one of the first things that made me fall in love with resin BJD :D

LOVE veins, etc. If they don't have them, I've been known to indicate them with color.

I definitely see it as being a masculine sort of thing. I even asked my sis this and she said yeah it's the sort of thing that shows a person does a lot with his/her hands (therefore, strength). I always got creeped out if people touched the veins on my wrists or hands, though, suh, ugh...! The vote so far is unanimous...! |

It's an easy detail for the sculptor to add to "increase" the realism of an elderly person or virile male (doesn't work on adult or younger females) sculpt. Since no two people are identical, the sculptor can put them just about where ever (on the back of the hand or the top of the feet) they want. They often look out of place as such anatomical details (veins, tendons,etc.) are frequently missing from the other parts of the sculpt.

I love veins on adult male and, if done well, female sculpts. That was one of the reasons I sized up from an MSD-based collection to an SD-based collection. I was oddly dissatisfied when I'd look at my MSD boy's hand and see them very smooth and then see, say, my father's hands covered in veins.

oh god the veins! DX i don't like touching my wrists either. The woman wouldn't have been so horrible if she didn't look like she tanned WAY too much. While it's out of society cannon for women to be so muscular, I think they can still look good...

I like vein's on adult males but not over the top for sure... though I am not a fan of them on girls at all. I have a dragon doll though and they have veins on their hands and feet, but I do not think they are over the top or anything... >.>And those pictures scare me. :blink:
